The kids are alright

Interesting article off the Red Eye link

It appears that sales of hip hop artists are in a solid decline over the last year. All things are cyclical hip hop was the mainstream over the last several years. Now something will fill its place. The question is what? If you know the answer now is the time to get on board and spread the word so you can be a front line indie hipster.

From the small sampling of folks i know that would still be considered MTV prime age. It seems that musical tastes tend to go from Screamo/Emo to basically pansy pop (see Mr. Timberlake) what do parents think when their 14 year olds are chanting that they are bringing sexy back? Do you even know what sexy is? So it appears that the genre stage is reached a strange plateau as everyone listens to everything.

Two things can happen here either music will start raising the bar or we are in for a few years of fairly bland music. Some would say that popular music has been bland for several years now. It isnt hard to make a case for either side.

Maybe just maybe it is time for Eddie Murphy to return to the musical stage and save us all...
